Loud Voices Documentary

A documentary focused on highlighting critical social issues surrounding affordable housing by examining the homelessness and housing crises in Ireland. It shares the personal stories of activists and communities directly affected by these challenges, aiming to raise awareness and drive meaningful change.

Background

Loud Voices is a documentary that aims to shed light on the critical social issue of affordable housing in Ireland. It highlights the severe impact of the housing crisis and features significant demonstrations, such as the "Raise the Roof" protest on November 26, 2022, which saw an estimated 12,000 people gathering in solidarity, and the "Ireland for All" protest on February 12, 2023, with around 50,000 participants.

The documentary follows two prominent figures:

1. James O'Toole: A social activist and resident of Tathony House, where 35 families face mass eviction as the landlord plans to sell the entire block, forcing all 100 residents to leave. The film captures James's relentless campaign and protests, highlighting his struggles to draw attention to their plight and prevent possible homelessness.

2.Meryl Streek: A punk spoken word artist from Dublin who has gained significant attention for his song "Death to the Landlords." Meryl's work underscores the lack of affordable housing, exorbitant rent prices, and insufficient government action. Outspoken about the housing crisis, he advocates for a governmental overhaul and intends to continue releasing music that demands change.

"Loud Voices" presents a powerful narrative, combining personal stories and public protests to underscore the urgent need for affordable housing solutions in Ireland.
